First PIC pro training at a large Midwestern Public University in the US

A large midwestern public university is officially the first in the US to incorporate the PIC system Gravity into its advanced prosthodontics program, following an intensive 5-day PIC pro training. 

Spearheaded by Dr. Dima Ghunaim, director of the advanced prosthodontics program, this move was made possible through collaboration with the PIC dental team as well as associate professor, Dr. Leila Ahmadian. In 2022, the PIC dental team delivered an insightful online lecture to the program's students, providing them with an overview of PIC dental’s solutions. Some students who attended the lecture also took part in the on-campus PIC pro training, while others became acquainted with the PIC system through their knowledge of photogrammetry systems, or they discovered the PIC system through surgeons and prosthodontists who shared it on social media.

The immersive 5-day training, tailored specifically for the university setting, proved instrumental in familiarizing professors, program directors, and residents with the intricacies of the PIC system Gravity. Despite the inherent learning curve associated with new technologies, the team quickly grasped the nuances of the system, seamlessly transitioning from theory to practice.

The personal narrative behind PIC dental’s inception struck a chord with the residents, many of whom could relate to the familial roots of the company. This shared connection fostered a sense of commitment among the residents, further fueling their enthusiasm for integrating the PIC system into their program.

“Everyone is just grabbing the PIC system and doing their own scan, they don't even need that much supervision.”

Remarkably, within the few days of the PIC pro training, residents demonstrated remarkable proficiency in utilizing the PIC system Gravity, seamlessly incorporating it into their digital workflow. The training's emphasis on integration with other digital tools received praise from residents, who recognized its value in optimizing clinical efficiency and patient outcomes.

During the training, a patient came into the clinic with an emergency situation and needed to be assisted to right away. Thanks to the PIC system, the patient was able to leave that same day with a new prosthesis, which wouldn't have been possible before.

After completing the 5-day training, the chief resident, who is an oral surgeon, emphasized the invaluable role the PIC system will play in surgeries, benefiting both the doctors and the patients. The ability to take a PIC system capture in an open-flap surgical setting saves time and streamlines the process for all involved.

As the residents near graduation and prepare to embark on their own private practices, the excitement about potentially owning their own PIC system one day continues to grow. During the training, a resident shared how even a patient expressed that the PIC system capture process was more comfortable compared to traditional analog impressions, highlighting the positive impact technology can have on the patient experience!
