This past month marked another successful collaboration between PIC dental and the Institute of Houston Dental Synergy (iHDS) in Houston, Texas. Together, we presented an FP1 and immediate loading with PIC pro course, led by the PIC dental team alongside guest speakers Dr. Giancarlo Romero and Dr. Jonathan Esquivel.

“One of the great things about this course is that it was very inclusive.”

General dentists, prosthodontists, periodontists, and even a lab team from across the United States came together for this educational experience, reaffirming the interest in evidence-based digital dentistry techniques, such as the PIC system.

Adrián Hernández, founder of PIC dental, kicked off the day with an overview of the PIC system and PIC pro workflow, setting the stage for a deep dive into the FP1 immediate loading digital workflow.

Dr. Romero, with over 25 years of experience as a maxillofacial prosthodontist, shares insights into a predictable full arch digital workflow. He guided participants all the way from gathering patient records to the production and placement of a same-day, screw-retained full arch transitional prosthesis.

Meanwhile, Dr. Esquivel, a seasoned educator in prosthodontics, dove into the topic of full arch FP1 prostheses analyzing many of his clinical cases.

The course progressed with a live demonstration on a patient undergoing an All-On-6 lower jaw rehabilitation. Attendees witnessed the step-by-step process of an immediate loading protocol, mirroring real surgical scenarios.

“We're very thankful to PIC for helping to put this course together.”

Patient records were obtained by first using the PIC system to measure the position of the implants. Dr. Romero recently upgraded his Legacy PIC system to the latest generation's form factor of the PIC system that was used for the demonstration. Following the capture, the patient's soft tissues were scanned and Adrián continued with a real-time demonstration of the CAD/CAM steps utilizing exocad®. The full prosthesis design was completed live in under 30 minutes. This same process could be done in any other dental design software, as the PIC file is compatible with all major dental CAD software solutions.

The design was sent to Dr. Romero’s in-house lab, where it was printed on a SprintRay® Pro S unit. It took less than 40 minutes to print, and little over an hour after taking the PIC system impression, the prosthesis was already being placed on the patient's implants.

“You have to be here to clear all your doubts, and it was such a beautiful experience to be here today.”

The presentations and clinical case demonstration greatly contributed to the continuous education of the students. The hands-on experience of walking through the digital workflow in real time heped further their understanding and expertise in digital dentistry techniques.

The collaboration between experts in the field, such as Dr. Romero and Dr. Esquivel, and the use of time-saving technology like the PIC system, exocad® software, and SprintRay® printers, showcased students the predictability and efficiency of incorporating digital solutions that they can now implement in their own dental practices.
